The storm wind brought down thousands of trees and sent ruins crashing into downtown streets as people made their way home from work, being told to take shelter. Moreover, bus and train services were suspended ,at least 60 passenger flights were cancelled, while more than 270 flights were delayed. The highest signal, No. 10, was issued in the early morning of 24 July. The stock exchange was also closed in the morning, and reopened in the afternoon as the Hong Kong Observatory issued Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 3 to replace No. 8.
There were after hundred of passengers were stranded in trains and stations overnight when typhoon Vicente battered the city.Hundreds of passengers had to spend the night on trains or in station halls, mostly in Tai Wai and Fo Tan,unable to complete their journeys until workers finished repairs to damaged cables to resume train services about 6:00am. It was a nightmare around midnight on 24th July when typhoon signal no. 10 was hoisted for the passengers and commuters. Many passengers are angry about the MTR’s emergency management.
In my opinion,I think that the MTR Corporation’s emergency management is correct on Tuesday. Halting train services in severe weather was to ensure commuters ’s safety, safety is of prior importance!! In addition, MTR were given $200 to some passengers who were able to catch a taxi for their destination and provided some food and water to the passengers. However, MTR should give stranded passengers the railway service information and the weather notice so that passengers can be assured.
Furthermore,I feel broken-hearted that the fallen trees, this is my first time to saw most of trees are falling down after the typhoon
